Keep the Water Flowing this Winter
Avoid frozen water lines this winter with these tips:
- Insulate water supply lines in your basement, crawl spaces, and under the kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
- Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes
- When it’s really cold outside, let the cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes, running water through the pipe – even at a trickle – helps prevent pipes from freezing.
- For the long term add insulation to attics, basements, and crawl spaces. Insulation will maintain higher temperatures in those areas. And to prevent drafts, seal cracks and openings around windows, doors, and at sill plates, where the house rests on its foundation.
